πŸ”΅ CORE FOUNDATION

πŸ”Ή Theme Overview

This week, both Adult and YAYA classes explore two powerful enemies believers must overcome in their spiritual journey:

  • Adult – My Enemy: Satan

  • YAYA – My Enemy: The Flesh

The Adult lesson focuses on the external spiritual enemy β€” Satan, who works to deceive, tempt, and destroy believers.

The YAYA lesson focuses on the internal enemy β€” the flesh, which represents the sinful nature within every human being.

Scripture teaches that the Christian life is not passive. It is a spiritual battle requiring awareness, discipline, and dependence on God.

Together, these lessons reveal an important spiritual truth:

πŸ‘‰ The believer must overcome both the enemy within (the flesh) and the enemy without (Satan).

When believers understand these realities, they begin to:

  • Recognize spiritual battles

  • Guard their hearts and thoughts

  • Depend on the power of God

  • Walk in victory over sin and temptation

🧠 Victory in the Christian life requires overcoming both the flesh and the devil.

🧠 MEMORY VERSES

🟦 SECTION 1: FOUNDATIONAL TEXT REVIEW

Adult Bible Passage:

πŸ“– Isaiah 14:12–17 β€” The Fall of Lucifer

This passage describes the downfall of Lucifer, who later became known as Satan.

Lucifer fell because of pride and rebellion against God.

In the passage we see several statements revealing his ambition and rebellion against God.

These statements show that Satan’s downfall began with self-exaltation and pride.

From the passage we learn:

  • Lucifer fell from heaven because of pride and rebellion against God (v12)

  • He desired to exalt himself above the stars of God and sit on the mount of congregation (v13)

  • He sought to ascend above the heights of the clouds and become like the Most High (v14)

  • Because of his pride, God declared that he would be brought down to the depths of the pit (v15)

  • Those who see his downfall will marvel at how such a powerful being was brought low (v16)

  • Satan caused destruction and turmoil on the earth and oppressed nations (v17)

This passage reveals that pride and rebellion were the root of Satan’s fall, showing the danger of self-exaltation against God.

πŸ”Ž Reflection: Why is pride considered one of the greatest spiritual dangers in the life of a believer?

YAYA Bible Passage:

πŸ“– Romans 7:18–22 β€” The Struggle With the Flesh

In this passage, the Apostle Paul describes the internal struggle between the desire to do good and the sinful nature.

From the passage we learn:

  • Nothing good dwells in the sinful nature of the flesh (v18)

  • The desire to do good may exist, but the ability to carry it out is hindered by the flesh (v18)

  • People often fail to do the good they intend to do (v19)

  • Sin operating within the flesh causes believers to act contrary to their intentions (v20)

  • There is a constant conflict between the desire to do good and the presence of evil within the human nature (v21)

  • The inner man delights in the law of God even though the flesh resists it (v22)

This passage reveals the spiritual tension believers experience between their new spiritual nature and the old sinful flesh.

πŸ”Ž Reflection: Why do believers still struggle with sinful tendencies even after becoming Christians?

🟦 SECTION 2: ADULT FOCUS

MY ENEMY: SATAN

The "world" is a battleground and the Christian life is a warfare. The Bible clearly teaches that Satan is a real enemy of believers. He seeks to oppose God’s work and destroy the lives of people.

We have been called to "good soldiers" of the Lord Jesus Christ and to war a a "good warfare"

πŸ“– 2 Timothy 2:3

πŸ“– 1 Timothy 1:18

πŸ”₯A. Satan’s Mission

Satan knows that his final judgment is certain.

However, before that day, he attempts to:

  • deceive people

  • lead them into sin

  • create confusion and division

  • discourage believers

According to the lesson, Satan uses several strategies to attack believers.

🧠 B. Common Strategies of Satan

1️⃣ Lies and deception

The devil is described as the father of lies.

πŸ“– John 8:44

He attempts to distort God’s truth and mislead people.

2️⃣ Fear

Fear can paralyze believers and keep them from acting in faith.

πŸ“– 1 Peter 5:8

3️⃣ Confusion

False teachings and misleading doctrines are tools used to confuse believers.

πŸ“– 1 Timothy 4:1–3

4️⃣ Temptation and accusation

Satan tempts people to sin and then condemns them afterward.

πŸ“– Revelation 12:10

5️⃣ Contention and division

Disunity weakens believers and churches.

πŸ“– 1 Corinthians 11:18

6️⃣ Discouragement and depression

Satan uses discouragement to weaken faith.

πŸ“– 1 Kings 19:4

7️⃣ Affliction

Sometimes sickness or hardship can become a tool of spiritual attack.

πŸ“– Job 2:7

🧩 C. How to Resist

The Bible teaches that believers can resist Satan and overcome his strategies by relying on God and applying spiritual discipline.

Believers can resist Satan through the following actions:

  • Submit to God and resist the devil β€” when believers submit to God and command the devil to leave, he must flee.
    πŸ“– James 4:7

  • Use the Scriptures β€” the Word of God is a powerful weapon against Satan’s temptations.
    πŸ“– Matthew 4:4–11

  • Look for the escape route during temptation β€” God always provides a way of escape from temptation.
    πŸ“– 1 Corinthians 10:13

  • Seek the truth through the Holy Spirit and the Scriptures β€” when Satan lies, believers should ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and search the Word.
    πŸ“– John 8:32; John 5:39

  • Promote peace and avoid disunity β€” believers should resolve conflicts quickly to prevent Satan from exploiting division.
    πŸ“– Hebrews 12:14; Romans 12:18

  • Overcome discouragement through spiritual activities β€” serve others, work diligently, listen to godly music, recount God’s blessings, and encourage yourself in prayer.
    πŸ“– Ephesians 5:19; 1 Samuel 30:6

  • Exercise faith when afflicted β€” seek prayer from church elders or mature believers and trust God for healing.
    πŸ“– James 5:14–15

These practices help believers maintain spiritual victory over Satan.

🟨 SECTION 3: YAYA FOCUS

MY ENEMY: THE FLESH

The world is our external enemy, but believers also have another enemy within, called the flesh.

The flesh refers to the sinful nature that dwells inside every human being. It is not the physical body itself, but the inner tendency toward sin that opposes God’s will.

πŸ“– Romans 8:13

The devil often works through this sinful nature, using it as a stronghold to influence people toward sin.

πŸ“˜ A. Understanding the Flesh

Before salvation, the flesh occupies the throne of the heart, manifesting as "self", and controlling the thoughts, desires, and actions of a person.

Even after receiving Christ, the flesh does not disappear. It continues to struggle against the new life in Christ and seeks to dominate again.

πŸ“– Galatians 5:17

Therefore, believers must depend on Christ and the Holy Spirit to subdue the flesh and live in victory over sin.

The Bible teaches that the flesh manifests itself through selfish attitudes and behaviors.

Examples include:

  • Self-pride β€” placing oneself above others

    πŸ“– Exodus 5:2

  • Self-love β€” prioritizing personal desires above God

    πŸ“– Luke 12:16-20

  • Self-pity β€” constantly complaining and feeling victimized

    πŸ“– Exodus 16:2-3

  • Self-righteousness β€” believing one’s own goodness is sufficient

    πŸ“– 1 Kings 19:14

  • Self-will β€” insisting on one’s own way instead of God’s will

    πŸ“– Judges 14:3

These attitudes reflect the influence of the sinful nature within people

πŸ‘‘ B. Victory Over the Flesh

Through Christ, believers receive the power to overcome the flesh.

The Bible teaches that God has provided victory through three important truths:

1️⃣ The Old Self Was Crucified

πŸ“– Romans 6:6-7

Through Christ, the old sinful nature was defeated.

2️⃣ Believers Become New Creations

πŸ“– 2 Corinthians 5:17

Salvation transforms a person into a new spiritual creation.

3️⃣ Christ Becomes the Believer’s Master

πŸ“– John 5:30

Believers now live to do the will of God.

⚠ C. Subduing the Flesh

Believers must actively discipline themselves to resist the flesh.

Practical steps include:

  • keeping the flesh crucified ()

    πŸ“– Galatians 5:24

  • making Christ the ruler of one’s life

  • living by the fruit of the Spirit

    πŸ“– Galatians 5:22–23

🟩 SECTION 4: CONNECT THE DOTS

How Both Classes Connect

Adult Class β†’ The external enemy (Satan)
YAYA Class β†’ The internal enemy (the flesh)

Together they reveal:

πŸ‘‰ The Christian life involves both internal and external battles.

πŸ‘‰ Believers must overcome both the devil’s attacks and the sinful nature within.

πŸ‘‰ Victory is possible only through Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.

🟧 SECTION 5: HEART TRANSFORMATION

Walking in Spiritual Victory

Understanding these enemies helps believers remain spiritually alert.

πŸ“– Galatians 5:16

β€œWalk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

When believers depend on God:

  • they resist temptation

  • they overcome the flesh

  • they defeat Satan’s strategies

πŸ”Ž Ask Yourself:

  • Do I recognize the spiritual battles around me?

  • Am I aware of the sinful tendencies within my heart?

  • Do I actively resist Satan’s lies and temptations?

  • Am I walking daily in the power of the Holy Spirit?

  • Do I allow God’s Word to guide my decisions?

A believer who understands spiritual warfare will:

  • stay alert in prayer

  • depend on Scripture

  • resist temptation

  • pursue holiness
