LESSON 2β DIVINE NATURE & HUMANITY OF CHRIST
π Adult Bible Text: Hebrews 4:14β16
π YAYA Bible Text: John 1:1β5, 14
π§ Adult Memory Verse: John 1:14 (KJV)
π§ YAYA Memory Verse: 1 John 5:20 (NKJV)
πΉ Theme Overview
This week, both Adult and YAYA classes explore one of the central doctrines of the Christian faith β the nature of Jesus Christ:
Adult β The Hypostatic Union (Divine and Human Nature of Christ)
YAYA β The Deity of Jesus Christ (Part 1)
Together, these lessons reveal:
Jesus is fully God
Jesus is fully man
His divine nature reveals His authority
His human nature allows Him to identify with humanity
This doctrine explains how salvation became possible.
π§ Only God could save humanity.
π§ Only a man could represent humanity.
Jesus became both.
Adult:
π John 1:14 (KJV)
βAnd the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.β
YAYA:
π 1 John 5:20 (NKJV)
βAnd we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.β
Adult Bible Passage:
Hebrews 4:14β16
YAYA Bible Passage:
John 1:1β5, 14

π Perfectly God. Perfectly Man.
Adult Bible Passage:
π Hebrews 4:14β16 β Jesus Our High Priest
This passage shows both Christβs divinity and humanity.
From the text:
Jesus is our Great High Priest who has ascended into heaven (v14)
He sympathizes with our weaknesses (v15)
He was tempted like us yet without sin (v15)
Believers can approach the throne of grace boldly (v16)
π Reflection:What does Christβs ability to sympathize with human weakness reveal about His humanity?
YAYA Bible Passage:
π John 1:1β5, 14 β The Word Became Flesh
From the passage:
The Word existed in the beginning (v1)
The Word was with God (v1)
The Word was God (v1)
All things were created through Him (v3)
Life and light come from Him (v4)
The Word became flesh and lived among us (v14)
π Reflection: What does this passage reveal about the identity of Jesus?

YAYA CLASS
π₯ What Is the Hypostatic Union?
The Hypostatic Union is the doctrine that Jesus Christ possesses two complete natures in one person.
He is:
Fully God
Fully Man
Both natures exist simultaneously without confusion or separation.
Jesus was always divine.
But at the incarnation, He took on human nature.
π John 8:58
π John 10:30
π John 1:14
π A. His Divine Nature
Scripture confirms Jesus is God.
π John 20:28
π Titus 2:13
Jesus also performed acts that only God can do:
Fully God
Fully Man
Forgiving sins (Mark 2:3β7)
Raising the dead (John 11:43β44)
Commanding nature (Matthew 14:18β21)
Possessing all authority (Matthew 28:18)
His statement βI AMβ (John 8:58) connects Him to God's name in Exodus 3:14.
Salvation itself requires belief in Christβs divinity. π Romans 10:9
π§B. His Human Nature
Jesus became human for several reasons.
π Luke 1:35
π John 1:1,14
He took on flesh so that He could:
Omnipotence (All-powerful)
Identify with human struggles (Hebrews 2:17β18)
Experience human life
Die for the sins of humanity (Galatians 3:13)
π A. Biblical Evidence Jesus Is God
The Bible clearly declares Jesus as God.
Examples include:
Jesus is part of the Godhead
π Genesis 1:1, 26
The fullness of God dwells in Him
π Colossians 2:6β9
The Father calls Him God
π Hebrews 1:8
Old Testament prophecy identifies Him as Mighty God
π Isaiah 9:6
Jesus declared unity with the Father
π John 10:30
π B. Testimony of the Apostles
The apostles affirmed Christβs deity.
π John 1:1 β The Word was God
π John 1:14 β The Word became flesh
π John 20:28 β Thomas said βMy Lord and my Godβ
π Titus 2:13 β The great God and our Saviour
π 2 Peter 1:1 β Our God and Saviour Jesus Christ
C. Divine Titles and Attributes
Jesus possesses titles and attributes belonging to God.
Redeemer
π Psalm 19:14 / Titus 2:13
Emmanuel β God with us
π Matthew 1:23
Creator and Sustainer
π John 1:3 / Colossians 1:16β17
He also possesses divine attributes:
Eternity (John 8:58)
Omnipresence (Matthew 18:20)
Omniscience (Matthew 16:21)
Omnipotence (Luke 7:13β15)Righteousness
How Both Classes Connect
Adult Class β Dual Nature of Christ
YAYA Class β Divine Identity of Christ
Together they reveal:
π Jesus is fully God and fully man
π His divinity gives Him authority
π His humanity allows Him to represent us
π His sacrifice makes salvation possible
Without His humanity, He could not die for man.
Without His divinity, His sacrifice would not save man.
Understanding Christβs nature transforms our faith.
π Ask Yourself:
Do I truly believe Jesus is God?
Do I trust Him as my High Priest?
Do I rely on Him in my weakness?
Do I approach God boldly through Christ?
If God truly rules my heart:
I submit.
I obey.
I surrender.
I seek first His Kingdom.
Because Jesus understands human struggle:
We can approach God with confidence.
π COMPETITION PREPARATION
If you are representing RCCG HoD in the regional competition:
For this lesson, focus on:
β Definition of Hypostatic Union
β Difference between divinity and humanity of Christ
β Scriptures proving Jesus is God
β Reasons Jesus became human
β Attributes of Christ
Can you explain:
β Why Christ must be both God and man?
β How Hebrews 4:14β16 shows Christβs humanity?
β How John 1 proves Christβs deity?
Leaders must understand doctrine deeply enough to defend it with Scripture (1 Peter 3:15)
Father, thank You for sending Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, to redeem us. Help me to understand His nature and live in the grace He has provided, in Jesusβ name.
