LESSON 24 β CHRISTIANS AND POLITICS: BE INVOLVED
π
15th February 2026
π Bible Text (Adult & YAYA): Matthew 5:13β16
π§ Memory Verse: Daniel 5:11
πΉ Theme Overview
This week, both Adult and YAYA lesson challenges believers to move from political avoidance to responsible engagement.
Many Christians believe politics is too corrupt to participate in.
However, Scripture teaches that believers are called to influence society, not withdraw from it.
Jesus described believers as:
Salt of the earth
Light of the world
π§ Salt must touch what it preserves.
Light must be visible to illuminate darkness.
π The issue is not whether Christians should influence society.
π The issue is whether we will influence it righteously.
π§ Silence in society often allows corruption to thrive.
Daniel 5:11 (KJV)
βThere is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdomβ¦ was found in him.β
Daniel influenced a pagan government without compromising his faith.
Matthew 5:13β16
Jesus gives two powerful metaphors describing the believerβs role in society.
π§ Salt of the Earth
Salt preserves.
Salt that loses its taste becomes useless.
π‘ Light of the World
Light exposes darkness.

π Faith that refuses to engage society becomes invisible.
π Matthew 5:13β16 (Text Review Emphasis)
This passage highlights the responsibility of believers to influence society.
A. Salt of the Earth (v13)
Preservation of moral standards
Preventing societal decay
Maintaining righteousness in the public space
Salt works quietly but powerfully.
A Christian presence should prevent corruption and moral collapse.
π Silence from believers allows decay to spread.
B. Light of the World (v14β15)
Light exposes darkness
Light provides direction
Light reveals truth
Light hidden under a basket cannot illuminate society.
When believers withdraw from societal engagement, darkness fills the vacuum.
π Withdrawal from influence empowers ungodly systems.
C. Visible Good Works (v16)
βLet your light so shine before menβ¦β
Believers must shine through:
Godly character
Integrity
Courage
Righteous influence should produce righteous outcomes
Society should see the impact of Christian values
Christian faith is not only personal; it must also be publicly impactful.
π Faith that never influences society is incomplete.
π Reflection: If believers are the salt and light of the earth, what happens to society when they withdraw from civic responsibility?
ADULT & YAYA CLASS
π₯ A. Authority Comes from God
π Romans 13:1
Governance structures exist under Godβs sovereignty.
Christians should therefore respect lawful authority and contribute to righteous governance.
π± B. Believers Are Called to Influence
π Matthew 5:13β16
Influence is not optional.
It is a mandate from Christ.
β C. Justice Must Be Pursued
π Micah 6:8
God requires His people to:
Do justice
Love mercy
Walk humbly with HimRise in crime and fraud
Political participation becomes one avenue for pursuing justice.
π© D. Identity Must Shape Engagement
π Galatians 4:1,7
Believers must not be shaped by secular narratives.
Instead, they should engage society from a Kingdom perspective.βGuaranteedβ profit with no risk.
1οΈβ£ Pray for Guidance
π Proverbs 3:5β6
π James 1:5
Political engagement must begin with prayerful discernment, not emotional reaction.
2οΈβ£ Be Informed
π Proverbs 18:15
Responsible participation requires understanding issues before forming opinions.
3οΈβ£ Maintain Biblical Integrity
π Daniel 6:4β11
π Philippians 4:8
Influence must never come at the cost of moral compromise.
Integrity protects testimony.
4οΈβ£ Participate in Elections
Voting is a civic stewardship.
Participation shapes societal direction.
5οΈβ£Engage Your Community
π 1 Peter 4:10
Influence often begins locally.
Believers should contribute to:
community initiatives
public discussions
civic programs
6οΈβ£ Advocate for Justice
π Isaiah 1:17
Speak for the vulnerable and defend what is right.
7οΈβ£ Build Strategic Relationships
π Proverbs 27:17
Collaboration strengthens impact and influence.
8οΈβ£ Raise Other Believers
π Hebrews 10:24
Mentoring and encouraging other Christians ensures that righteous voices increase in society.
The Danger of Apathy
When believers disengage from society:
moral standards decline
corrupt leadership thrives
righteous influence disappears
Apathy creates a leadership vacuum.
And vacuums are quickly filled by ungodly influence.
Joseph influenced Egypt.
Daniel influenced Babylon.
Esther influenced Persia.
None of them abandoned their faith.
Instead, their faith shaped national outcomes.
π The Bible does not teach isolation.
π It teaches righteous influence.
π Ask Yourself:
Am I avoiding civic engagement because of fear or misunderstanding?
Do I pray for leaders consistently?
Do I seek justice when society is silent?
Am I using my influence responsibly?
God calls believers to represent Him everywhere, including civic life.
