LESSON 28 – LOVING GOD ABOVE PLEASURE
📅15th March 2026
📖 Adult Bible Text: 2 Peter 2:13–14
📖 YAYA Bible Text: Psalm 139:13–18
🧠 Adult Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 3:4 (KJV)
🧠 YAYA Memory Verse: Matthew 22:39 (NKJV)
🔹 Theme Overview
This week, both Adult and YAYA classes examine two connected spiritual truths:
Adult – The danger of becoming lovers of pleasure
YAYA – The importance of understanding your God-given worth
Many people chase pleasure because they do not understand their identity in God.
Together, these lessons reveal that when people:
Do not value their divine design
Seek validation from the world
Pursue comfort above purpose
They become lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
🧠 When our identity is rooted in God, pleasure loses its control.
Adult:
2 Timothy 3:4(KJV)
“Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.”
YAYA:
Matthew 22:39 (NKJV)
“You shall love your neighbour as yourself”
Adult Bible Passage:
2 Peter 2:13–14
YAYA Bible Passage:
Psalm 139:13–18

👉 “Loving God above pleasure”
Adult Bible Passage:
📖 2 Peter 2:13–14 – The Character of Lovers of Pleasure
From the passage:
They receive the reward of unrighteousness (v13)
They count pleasure as happiness in the daytime, openly indulging in sinful living (v13)
They are described as spots and blemishes, corrupting others while they feast with them (v13)
They have eyes full of adultery and cannot cease from sin (v14)
They entice unstable souls and operate from hearts trained in greed (v14)
This passage reveals the moral condition of people who live for pleasure rather than righteousness. It shows how sensual living gradually corrupts character and influences others negatively.
🔎 Reflection: What does this passage reveal about the spiritual consequences of living for pleasure rather than living to please God?
YAYA Bible Passage:
📖 Psalm 139:13–18 – Understanding Your Divine Design
From the passage:
God formed and created us in the womb (v13)
We are fearfully and wonderfully made by God (v14)
Our body and structure were not hidden from God during creation (v15)
God saw our substance before we were fully formed (v16)
God ordained our days before we were born (v16)
God’s thoughts toward us are precious and countless (v17–18)
This passage reveals the intentional and detailed nature of God’s creation of every human being. It teaches that each person is uniquely designed, valuable, and created with purpose.
🔎 Reflection: How should understanding that God personally designed you influence the way you see yourself and live your life?

🔥 What Are Sensual Pleasures?
Sensual pleasures are carnal or worldly gratifications that gradually replace love for God.
They occur when:
Comfort becomes the goal of life
Gratification replaces discipline
Desire overrides obedience
Pleasure becomes a person’s god
The Bible warns that in the last days people will become lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. (2 Timothy 3:4)
When pleasure governs the heart, spiritual sensitivity begins to decline.
⚠ Dangers of Pleasure-Driven Living
Scripture highlights several consequences:
God’s word loses influence in the heart (Luke 8:14)
Careless living develops, ignoring spiritual discipline (Isaiah 47:8)
Love of pleasure often produces poverty and instability (Proverbs 21:17)
People become enslaved to lustful desires (Titus 3:3)
They ignore God’s coming judgement (Romans 1:32)
They take pleasure in unrighteousness (2 Thessalonians 2:12)
Spiritual death occurs even while physically alive (1 Timothy 5:6)
A life controlled by pleasure eventually destroys spiritual strength.
🧠 Spiritual Effects of Loving Pleasure
Those dominated by pleasure often:
Resist God’s law (Romans 8:7)
Remain spiritually immature (1 Corinthians 3:1–3)
Live for personal gratification (Philippians 2:21)
Pursue earthly desires above spiritual purpose (Philippians 3:18–19)
When pleasure rules the heart, growth stops and character weakens.
🌍 A Culture of Pleasure ("The Soft Life")
Modern society and culture constantly promotes:
Entertainment without restraint
Luxury without discipline
Comfort without sacrifice
Happiness without righteousness
But Scripture reminds believers:
👉 Not everything that feels good is good for the soul.
A believer must choose purpose over pleasure.
👉 When every man is eager only for what he can get, and anxious to keep what he has, it makes men dangerous to one another.
🧭 The Believer’s Responsibility
Our first responsibility is to remember that we did not create ourselves.
📖 Revelation 4:11
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
Human life exists for God's pleasure and purpose, not merely for personal gratification.
When believers forget this truth, pleasure begins to replace obedience, reverence, and purpose.
Therefore, believers must intentionally live in a way that honours and glorifies the One who created them.
As believers, we must therefore:
Submit our desires to God’s will and acknowledge Him in all that we do
📖 Proverbs 3:6, Jeremiah 9:23-24
Walk in total surrender
📖 Psalm 37:5; 55:22
Live uprightly and avoid excessive indulgence in worldly pleasures
📖 1 Chronicles 29:17, 1 John 2:15–17
Pursue holiness rather than gratification
📖 Hebrews 12:14, Ezra 10:11
Exercise self-control and discipline
📖 1 Corinthians 9:27
Seek to know Him above temporary pleasure
📖 Psalm 111:2, Colossians 3:1–2
Fear Him and hope in His mercy
📖 Psalm 147:10-11
📘 A. We Are God’s Masterpiece
Every human being is uniquely created by God.
📖 Isaiah 64:8 reminds us that God is the Master Sculptor who formed each person intentionally.
This means:
No two fingerprints are the same
Our DNA and voice pattern are unique
Even the number of hairs on our head is known by God (Matthew 10:30)
Our physical features were created deliberately by God (Matthew 5:36)
God designed every human being with distinct identity and purpose.
Our brain alone contains about 100 billion nerve cells, enabling humans to think, reason, and make decisions.
The human brain:
Controls involuntary functions like heartbeat and breathing
Enables reasoning, creativity, and abstract thinking
Processes tens of thousands of thoughts every day
You are not an accident.
You are carefully designed by God.
📘 B. Appreciating Our Unique Identity
Because God created you intentionally, you must learn to respect and value yourself.
Self-love is not pride — it is recognizing God's workmanship in you.
As believers we should therefore:
Avoid unhealthy comparison with others
📖 2 Corinthians 10:12
Recognize our unique identity and purpose
📖 Psalm 139:14
Give our best effort in life
📖 Proverbs 12:24
Seek wisdom in decisions
📖 Proverbs 16:16
Encourage ourselves during difficult times
📖 1 Samuel 30:6 YAYA SS Lesson 28
True self-respect means striving to become the best version of ourself, not trying to become someone else.
📘 C. Practicing Healthy Self-Care
Loving yourself also means taking care of your physical and emotional well-being.
This includes:
Maintaining a cheerful and positive attitude
📖 Proverbs 15:13
Keeping your environment clean and orderly
📖 Deuteronomy 23:13–14
Eating well, exercising, and resting properly
📖 1 Timothy 4:8
📖 Ecclesiastes 5:12
Removing negative influences such as bitterness, envy, and toxic relationships
📖 Ephesians 4:31
📖 Proverbs 14:30
📖 Proverbs 13:20
Staying productive and engaged in meaningful work
📖 Ecclesiastes 9:10
Healthy self-care reflects respect for God's creation — yourself.
📘 D. Loving God Above All
True self-love must never replace love for God.
The foundation of a healthy life is:
Loving God passionately
📖 Deuteronomy 6:5
Growing daily in your relationship with Him
📖 2 Peter 3:18
Never placing any human above God
When God remains first in your life, you will understand your true identity and purpose.
✨ Key Truth
Loving yourself means recognizing that you are God's unique creation, designed to fulfil His purpose on earth.
How Both Classes Connect
Adult Class → Lovers of Pleasures
YAYA Class → Love Yourself
Together they reveal:
👉 Understanding your identity protects you from empty pleasures
👉 Loving God must come before loving comfort
👉 True self-worth comes from being God’s creation
👉 A life centred on pleasure leads away from God
👉 Identity in God produces disciplined living
A mature believer values God’s purpose above worldly pleasure.
Leadership begins with personal discipline.
🔎 Ask Yourself:
Do I chase comfort more than spiritual growth?
Do I prioritise entertainment over devotion?
Do I compare my life with others?
Do I appreciate how God created me?
If God governs my heart:
I live responsibly
I live for His pleasure
