LESSON 36 – PARENTING STYLES (PART 2)
📅 10th May 2026
Bible Text (Adult & YAYA): 📖Esther 2:7, 10–11
🧠 Memory Verse (Adult – KJV): Proverbs 13:24
🧠 Memory Verse (YAYA – NKJV): Proverbs 13:24
🔹 Theme Overview
This week’s lesson builds on the foundation of parenting styles by focusing on biblical pointers for effective parenting and how to apply them wisely.
The lesson reveals that:
Parenting is a responsibility given by God
Every parent operates a style—whether intentional or not
Scripture provides clear guidance for raising godly children
Effective parenting requires both knowledge and obedience
👉 Parenting is not just natural—it is spiritual stewardship.
🧠 The goal of parenting is not control, but raising children who honour God.
🧠 The best parenting style is:
Spirit-led
Balanced
Adaptive
Rooted in Scripture
👉 “Godly Parenting Requires Wisdom, Not Rigidity.”
🔹 Adult: Proverbs 13:24 (KJV)
“He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.”
🔹 YAYA: Proverbs 13:24 (NKJV)
“He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.”
Esther 2:7, 10–11
This passage highlights how Mordecai raised Esther with care, wisdom, and intentional guidance.
👉 Godly parenting produces children who are:
Well-cultured
Disciplined
Wise
Positioned for destiny

👉 Discipline is not cruelty—it is proof of love and responsibility.
📖 Esther 2:7, 10–11 — Mordecai’s Parenting Model
From this passage, we observe key parenting actions:
1️⃣ Mordecai took responsibility for Esther (v7)
→ He adopted and raised her as his own
2️⃣ He provided care and nurture (v7)
→ Esther was brought up under guidance and protection
3️⃣ He gave wise instruction (v10)
→ Esther followed counsel and exercised restraint
4️⃣ He showed consistent concern and involvement (v11)
→ Mordecai checked on her daily and stayed engaged
👉 Parenting is not passive—it is intentional and consistent involvement.
🔎 Reflection: What kind of parental involvement produces godly and well-balanced children?
Parenting styles are defined by two key dimensions:
Responsiveness (Love, warmth, sensitivity)
Demandingness (Discipline, control, expectations)
🔥 A. Understanding Parenting Style
Parenting style refers to your approach to raising children
Every parent uses a method—whether defined or not
👉 Parenting is always happening—intentionally or unintentionally
🔥 B. Scriptural Guidance for Parenting
1️⃣ The Bible Addresses Parenting
📖 Genesis 18:19
📖 1 Samuel 2:27–30
Scripture shows both effective and failed parenting examples
Parenting outcomes are shaped by obedience or neglect
2️⃣ Key Biblical Parenting Principles
i. Love, Care, and Support
📖 Ephesians 6:4
📖 1 Timothy 5:8
📖 Proverbs 31:15, 21
→ Children thrive in environments of love and provision
ii. Discipline
📖 Proverbs 23:13–14
→ Correction is necessary for proper development
iii. Correction
📖 Proverbs 19:18
📖 Proverbs 29:17
→ Guidance prevents future destruction
iv. Spiritual Instruction
📖 Deuteronomy 6:7
📖 Proverbs 22:6
→ Training must include spiritual foundations
👉 Knowing these is not enough—obedience is what produces results
🔍 Key Insight
👉 There is no “one-size-fits-all” parenting style
🔥 A. Flexibility in Parenting
i. Parents must adapt to situations
ii. Effective parents adjust based on circumstances
🔥 B. Practical Examples
iii. A strict parent may show flexibility during illness
→ e.g., easing rules when a child is unwell
iv. A permissive parent may enforce strictness for safety
→ e.g., holding a child firmly while crossing the road
👉 Wisdom in parenting is knowing when to adjust and when to stand firm
Parenting styles (Part 1 + Part 2) now come together:
Styles exist (permissive, authoritarian, etc.)
Scripture gives guiding principles
The goal is not choosing one style
The goal is applying God’s wisdom in every situation
👉 Effective parenting = Biblical principles + Situational wisdom + Holy Spirit guidance
🔎 Ask Yourself:
Am I parenting intentionally or by default?
Do I apply Scripture in raising my children?
Do I balance love and discipline?
Am I flexible or rigid in my approach?
Do I depend on the Holy Spirit in parenting decisions?
🧠 A Godly Parent:
Loves intentionally
Disciplines wisely
Teaches spiritually
Adapts wisely
Leads by example
👉 Parenting is not about control—it is about raising destiny
