🔵 CORE FOUNDATION

🔹 Theme Overview

This week’s lessons focus on two important aspects of the believer’s life: knowing oneself in Christ and offering acceptable worship to God.

The Adult lesson (Vain Worship) exposes the dangers of worship that is merely external or ritualistic without genuine devotion to God.

The YAYA lesson (Know Yourself) emphasizes the importance of understanding one’s identity, purpose, strengths, and calling as a child of God.

Together, these lessons teach an important spiritual truth:

👉 True worship and effective living begin with knowing who you are in God and living sincerely before Him.

When believers understand who they are and how God expects them to worship, they will:

  • develop a deeper relationship with God

  • worship sincerely and truthfully

  • live confidently according to their divine purpose

  • avoid superficial religion

🧠 Self-knowledge and sincere worship are essential for a victorious Christian life.

🧠 MEMORY VERSES

YAYA:

🟦 SECTION 1: FOUNDATIONAL TEXT REVIEW

Adult Bible Passage:

📖 Matthew 15:7–9 — Evidence of Vain Worship

In this passage, Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for their hypocrisy in worship. They honored God with their lips but their hearts were far from Him.

From the passage we learn:

  • Jesus described the religious leaders as hypocrites who pretended to honor God while lacking sincerity (v7)

  • The people honored God with their lips but their hearts were far from Him (v8)

  • Their worship was considered vain because it was not sincere or genuine (v9)

  • They replaced God’s commands with human traditions and teachings (v9)

  • Their reverence toward God was based on the teachings of men rather than true devotion (v9)

This passage reveals that God rejects worship that is merely external or ritualistic without sincere devotion of the heart.

🔎 Reflection: Why does God reject worship that is based only on outward religious practices?

YAYA Bible Passage:

📖 1 Samuel 17:32–37 — David’s Confidence in God

This passage records the conversation between David and King Saul before David confronted Goliath. David demonstrated confidence because he understood who he was and remembered how God had helped him in the past.

From the passage we learn:

  • David encouraged Saul not to fear because he was willing to fight the giant (v32)

  • Saul initially doubted David’s ability because of his youth and inexperience (v33)

  • David explained how he had previously protected his father’s sheep from dangerous animals (v34)

  • He described how he attacked the lion and the bear and rescued the sheep from them (v35)

  • David testified that he had killed both the lion and the bear through God’s help (v36)

  • He confidently declared that the God who delivered him before would also deliver him from Goliath (v37)

This passage shows that knowing your identity and remembering God’s past help gives confidence to face greater challenges in life.

🔎 Reflection: How can remembering God’s past help strengthen your confidence in difficult situations?

🟦 SECTION 2: ADULT FOCUS

VAIN WORSHIP

The "world" is a battleground and the Christian life is a warfare. The Bible clearly teaches that Satan is a real enemy of believers. He seeks to oppose God’s work and destroy the lives of people.

We have been called to "good soldiers" of the Lord Jesus Christ and to war a a "good warfare"

📖 Job 1:20-21

🔥A. Pointers and Concerns About Vain Worship

Certain behaviors reveal when worship has become empty or superficial.

1️⃣ Seeking outward recognition

Some worshippers focus on appearing religious before others rather than sincerely honoring God.

📖 Luke 18:10–12

2️⃣ Superficial religious appearance

Some people honor God with their lips while their hearts remain far from Him.

📖 Isaiah 29:13
📖 Matthew 23:27–28

3️⃣ Speaking the right words without genuine devotion

Some people use religious language but lack true engagement with God.

📖 Matthew 15:8

4️⃣ Legalistic religion

This occurs when human traditions and rituals are prioritized above sincere devotion to God.

📖 Mark 7:6–9

⚠ B. Concerns for Those Who Practice Vain Worship

Those who promote vain worship cannot remain in deception forever.

📖 Galatians 6:7–8

The Bible warns that:

1️⃣ God rejects worship that does not come from the heart.

📖 Amos 5:21–23
📖 Matthew 7:21–23

2️⃣ Focusing on tradition rather than personal faith weakens one’s relationship with God.

📖 Galatians 1:14

3️⃣ Vain worship can lead to misguided religion that replaces godliness with human practices.

📖 Colossians 2:8

🔥 C. A Call to True Worship

The Bible teaches that believers can resist Satan and overcome his strategies by relying on God and applying spiritual discipline.

True worship:

  • begins with repentance and renewal of the mind

    📖 Acts 3:19

  • is a lifestyle, not just a church activity

    📖 John 4:21–23

  • must be done in spirit and in truth

    📖 John 4:24

    📖 Romans 8:14

🟨 SECTION 3: YAYA FOCUS

KNOW YOURSELF

Many people fail in life because they lack proper understanding of who they are and the purpose for which God created them.

To know yourself is to understand your identity, abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and purpose as a child of God.

The awareness of who you are helps you live with confidence and fulfill your divine assignment.

📖 Ephesians 1:18–19
📖 Revelation 5:10

📘 A. The Manufacturer’s Manual

To know yourself, you must first acknowledge God as your Creator and Manufacturer.

📖 Genesis 1:26–27

God knows every detail about His creation. Before Jeremiah was born, God already knew him and ordained his purpose.

📖 Jeremiah 1:5

Therefore, believers must know God intimately and study His word — the Manufacturer’s manual (the Bible).

📖 Psalm 1:1–2
📖 2 Timothy 2:15
📖 Psalm 119:11

The more we study God’s Word, the healthier, wiser, and stronger we become.

📖 Jeremiah 15:16
📖 Proverbs 4:20–22

👑 B. The Place of Knowledge

Knowledge helps a person understand their:

  • strengths and weaknesses

  • goals and aspirations

  • abilities and emotional tendencies

📖 Luke 10:19
📖 Philippians 3:7–14

Understanding yourself helps you recognize:

  • what motivates you

  • what discourages you

  • your talents and limitations

  • how determined you are to succeed

📖 Esther 4:16
📖 1 Corinthians 9:22
📖 Judges 16:20

When people understand themselves, they can:

  • develop their strengths

  • improve their weaknesses

  • live peacefully with others

🟩 SECTION 4: CONNECT THE DOTS

How Both Classes Connect

Adult Class → True worship vs vain worship
YAYA Class → Understanding one’s identity and purpose

Together they reveal:

👉 True worship flows from a heart that understands God and oneself.

👉 Self-knowledge helps believers live intentionally before God.

👉 Genuine worship must come from a transformed heart and obedient life.

🟧 SECTION 5: HEART TRANSFORMATION

Living a Life of True Worship

God desires worship that comes from a sincere and obedient heart.

📖 John 4:24

True worship is not limited to church gatherings but should reflect in everyday life.

🔎 Ask Yourself:

  • Do I worship God sincerely or only outwardly?

  • Do my actions reflect genuine devotion to God?

  • Am I growing in understanding of who God created me to be?

  • Do I study God’s Word to discover my purpose?

A believer who understands spiritual warfare will:

  • worship God sincerely

  • grow spiritually

  • walk confidently in their purpose
