LESSON 8 โ SPIRITUAL GIFTS VERSUS FRUIT / FAITH AND SCIENCE
๐ 26th October 2025
๐ Adult Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 12:4โ11
๐ YAYA Bible Text: Daniel 1:3โ4
๐ง Adult Memory Verse: Ephesians 5:9 (KJV)
๐ง YAYA Memory Verse: Colossians 1:17 (NKJV)
๐น Theme Overview
This weekโs lessons examine two important dimensions of the Christian life: spiritual maturity and intellectual understanding of Godโs creation.
The Adult lesson (Spiritual Gifts Versus Fruit) teaches believers the difference between the supernatural abilities given by the Holy Spirit and the godly character produced by the Spirit in the life of a believer.
The YAYA lesson (Faith and Science) explores how faith and scientific discovery are not enemies but can complement one another in understanding Godโs creation.
Together, these lessons reveal an important spiritual truth:
๐ God equips believers with gifts for service while developing their character through the fruit of the Spirit, and both faith and knowledge can deepen our understanding of Godโs work.
When believers understand these truths, they will:
serve effectively using spiritual gifts
develop Christ-like character through the fruit of the Spirit
appreciate the harmony between faith and knowledge
grow spiritually and intellectually
๐ง God desires believers who are both spiritually gifted and spiritually mature.
Adult:
๐ Ephesians 5:9 (KJV)
โFor the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.โ
YAYA:
๐ Colossians 1:17 (NKJV)
โAnd He is before all things, and in Him all things consist."
Adult Bible Passage:
1 Corinthians 12:4โ11
YAYA Bible Passage:
Daniel 1:3โ4

๐ God equips believers with gifts for service while growing spiritual character within them
Adult Bible Passage:
๐ 1 Corinthians 12:4โ11 โ Diversity of Spiritual Gifts
In this passage, Apostle Paul explains that the Holy Spirit distributes different spiritual gifts to believers for the benefit of the body of Christ.
From the passage we learn:
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but they all come from the same Spirit (v4)
There are different ministries and forms of service but the same Lord works through them (v5)
God works in different ways through believers but it is the same God who works in all (v6)
Spiritual gifts are given for the common good of the body of Christ (v7)
The Holy Spirit distributes gifts such as wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues and interpretation according to His will (v8โ11)
This passage teaches that spiritual gifts are divine enablements given by the Holy Spirit to serve others and glorify God.
๐ Reflection: Why is it important for believers to use their spiritual gifts for the benefit of others?
YAYA Bible Passage:
๐ Daniel 1:3โ4 โ Training in Knowledge and Wisdom
In this passage, the king of Babylon selected young Israelites to be trained in knowledge and wisdom.
From the passage we learn:
The king commanded that selected young Israelites from noble families should be brought into his service (v3)
They were required to be young men without physical defect and capable of learning (v4)
They needed wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in learning (v4)
They were trained in the literature and language of the Babylonians (v4)
This preparation equipped them with knowledge and intellectual development
This passage shows that knowledge and learning can be used to develop wisdom and understanding about the world.
๐ Reflection: How can education and scientific understanding strengthen a believerโs appreciation of Godโs creation?
ADULT CLASS
YAYA CLASS
Both spiritual gifts and the fruit of the Spirit come from the Holy Spirit, but they serve different purposes in the life of a believer.
Spiritual gifts enable believers to serve effectively, while the fruit of the Spirit reflects Christ-like character.

๐ 1 Corinthians 12:7
2๏ธโฃ Examples of spiritual gifts include prophecy, healing, teaching, serving, giving, and leadership
๐ Romans 12:6โ8
๐ 1 Corinthians 12:8โ10
3๏ธโฃ The Holy Spirit determines who receives each gift
๐ 1 Corinthians 12:11
4๏ธโฃ Spiritual gifts must be developed and used faithfully
๐ 1 Timothy 4:14
๐ฅ B. Understanding the Fruit of the Spirit
The fruit of the Spirit represents the character traits that grow in believers as they walk closely with God.
๐ Galatians 5:25
Key truths about the fruit of the Spirit include:
1๏ธโฃ It reflects the personality and character of Christ
๐ Galatians 5:22โ23

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
2๏ธโฃ The fruit grows through abiding in Christ
๐ John 15:4โ5
3๏ธโฃ It is evidence of spiritual growth and maturity
๐ 2 Peter 3:18
4๏ธโฃ Believers are recognized by the presence of these virtues
๐ Matthew 7:16โ20
5๏ธโฃ Growth in the fruit requires obedience to God's word and avoiding sinful influences
๐ Psalm 1:1โ3
๐ฅ C. Key Differences Between Spiritual Gifts and the Fruit of the Spirit
Both spiritual gifts and the fruit of the Spirit are important for a balanced Christian life, but they serve different purposes in a believerโs growth and ministry.
1๏ธโฃ Spiritual gifts empower believers for ministry, while the fruit of the Spirit shapes believers into Christ-like individuals.
๐ 1 Corinthians 12:7
๐ Galatians 5:22โ23
2๏ธโฃ Spiritual gifts focus on abilities for service, whereas the fruit of the Spirit focuses on character and spiritual maturity.
๐ 1 Corinthians 12:8โ10
๐ Ephesians 5:9
3๏ธโฃ Spiritual gifts are distributed uniquely to different believers, but every believer is expected to manifest the fruit of the Spirit.
๐ 1 Corinthians 12:11
๐ John 15:4โ5
4๏ธโฃ Spiritual gifts are given to edify and serve others, while the fruit of the Spirit reflects the nature and character of Christ in the believer.
๐ 1 Corinthians 14:26
๐ Galatians 5:22โ23
5๏ธโฃ Spiritual gifts are diverse and vary among believers, but the fruit of the Spirit is unified and represents holistic Christian character.
๐ Romans 12:6โ8
๐ Matthew 7:16โ20
๐ In summary, spiritual gifts help believers serve effectively, while the fruit of the Spirit ensures that their service reflects Christ-like character.
Faith and science are often viewed as opposing ideas, but Scripture shows they can complement each other in understanding Godโs creation.
Faith involves trust in God and acceptance of spiritual truths, while science involves systematic study of the natural world.
๐ A. The Concepts of Faith and Science
Faith is a personal belief centered on trust in God and acceptance of spiritual truths.
๐ Acts 17:23
๐ Jonah 3:5
Faith may involve accepting truths that cannot always be scientifically proven but are embraced through spiritual conviction and experience.
๐ Daniel 3:16โ18
๐ Hebrews 11:3
๐ Acts 9:3โ6
Faith provides meaning, purpose, and moral guidance.
๐ Hebrews 11:1
๐ Hebrews 11:7โ8
Science, on the other hand, is the systematic study of nature through observation, experimentation, and evidence.
Biblical examples of scientific observation include:
Solomon studied plants, animals, birds, reptiles, and fish.
๐ 1 Kings 4:33
Noah followed precise measurements and engineering instructions when building the ark.
๐ Genesis 6:14โ16
The book of Job contains observations about weather, animals, and the cosmos.
๐ Job 38โ39
Daniel was trained in the knowledge and wisdom of Babylon, including astronomy.
๐ Daniel 1:19โ20
These examples show that learning and scientific observation can coexist with faith in God.
๐ B. The Harmony Between Faith and Science
Faith and science can complement each other when properly understood.
1๏ธโฃ The belief that the universe is orderly reflects a faith-based worldview.
๐ Ecclesiastes 3:1
๐ Genesis 8:22
๐ Isaiah 40:25โ26
2๏ธโฃ Scientific discoveries can deepen faith by revealing the complexity of creation.
๐ Psalm 19:1โ6
3๏ธโฃ Understanding the precision of nature can strengthen belief in a purposeful Creator.
๐ Proverbs 3:19โ20
4๏ธโฃ Science explains the โhowโ of natural processes while faith explains the โwhy.โ
Example:
Science explains how trees grow through sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.
Faith explains that God created trees to provide food and sustenance for humanity.
๐ Genesis 2:9
5๏ธโฃ While faith in God should be absolute, scientific knowledge remains limited and subject to error.
๐ Deuteronomy 32:4
๐ Psalm 18:30
How Both Classes Connect
Adult Class โ Spiritual gifts and spiritual character
YAYA Class โ Faith and intellectual understanding of creation
Together they reveal:
๐ God equips believers with spiritual gifts for service.
๐ God develops Christ-like character through the fruit of the Spirit.
๐ Faith and knowledge together help believers appreciate Godโs creation.
A balanced Christian life requires spiritual empowerment, spiritual maturity, and intellectual understanding.
Growing in Gifts and Character
God desires believers who not only operate in spiritual gifts but also demonstrate Christ-like character.
๐ Galatians 5:22โ23
A healthy Christian life requires:
using spiritual gifts for service
growing in the fruit of the Spirit
increasing in knowledge and understanding
appreciating Godโs creation
๐ Ask Yourself:
Am I using the spiritual gifts God has given me?
Am I growing in the fruit of the Spirit?
Do I appreciate the harmony between faith and knowledge?
Am I developing both spiritual maturity and understanding?
Believers who develop both gifts and character will:
serve God effectively
reflect Christโs nature
grow spiritually
impact others positively
