Bible Text (Adult & YAYA): 1 Corinthians 14:1โ5
๐ง Memory Verse (Adult): 1 Corinthians 14:1 (KJV)
๐ง Memory Verse (YAYA): 1 Corinthians 14:1 (NKJV)
๐น Theme Overview
This week, both Adult and YAYA classes explore the place, purpose, and benefits of prophecy in the life of the believer and in the Church. Prophecy is presented in the manual as a spiritual gift and ministry through which God communicates His mind and will to His people. It brings guidance, encouragement, and edification to the body of Christ.
This lesson highlights:
the meaning and nature of prophecy
the forms prophecy can take
the need to test prophetic words
the benefits prophecy brings to believers and the Church
๐ง Prophecy is not for confusion, pride, or manipulation. It is for edification, exhortation, comfort, and guidance.
Godโs design for prophecy is built on:
divine inspiration
Christ-centeredness
scriptural testing
spiritual benefit to the Church
๐ โTrue prophecy points to Christ and strengthens His people.โ
Adult:
๐ 1 Corinthians 14:1 (KJV)
โFollow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.โ
YAYA:
๐ 1 Corinthians 14:1 (NKJV)
โPursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy."
This verse shows two important priorities:
love remains foundational
spiritual gifts should be desired, especially prophecy
Adult & YAYA Bible Passage:
1 Corinthians 14:1โ5
In this passage, Apostle Paul compares prophecy and speaking in tongues in the context of public edification.
Paul shows that:
prophecy speaks to people in a way they can understand
prophecy edifies the Church
prophecy is especially useful in gathered worship
Verse 3 emphasizes that prophecy brings:
edification
exhortation
comfort
Verse 5 shows that prophecy is greater than uninterpreted tongues in public worship because it builds up the Church.
๐ โProphecy is valuable because it strengthens the people of God.โ

๐ Prophecy is valuable because it strengthens the people of God.
๐ 1 Corinthians 14:1โ5 โ Prophecy and Edification
In this passage, Apostle Paul instructs believers to pursue love, desire spiritual gifts, and especially value prophecy because of its benefit to the Church.
From the passage we learn:
Believers are commanded to follow after love and desire spiritual gifts, especially prophecy (v1)
He that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks to God, while others may not understand him (v2)
He that prophesies speaks to men for edification, exhortation, and comfort (v3)
Speaking in tongues edifies the speaker, but prophecy edifies the Church (v4)
Paul affirmed the value of tongues, but preferred prophecy in the gathered church because it benefits others more clearly (v5)
This passage teaches that prophecy is a gift meant to strengthen, encourage, and comfort Godโs people in a way that builds up the whole Church.
๐ Reflection: Why is prophecy especially valuable when it strengthens others and not just the speaker?
Prophecy is a spiritual gift and ministry through which God communicates His mind and will to His people. It is a vital aspect of Christian living that enables believers to receive guidance, encouragement, and edification.
